With help from our members and friends, new flooring in several rooms, and the replacing of some lighting and other equipment has been completed at a cost of over $35,000. We thank each and every one of you for your help.
To celebrate our accomplishments and show the public what has been done, the museum will have a Grand Reopening as part of our Monthly Program Meeting on Tuesday, May 21st, at 6:30 p.m. Members of the Jay County Chamber of Commerce will be here to help us celebrate with a ribbon cutting. During a short program, we will review some of the changes which have been made. Those in attendance will then be given a chance to tour the museum. The public is invited to attend this special program.
Work toward the project began in November as volunteers began moving displays, showcases, tables, and chairs out of the kitchen. That included removing several large senior class composite pictures from the walls. Pegboard was installed on some of the cement block walls to make hanging pictures easier. Then volunteers painted the room. Because of this work, all Christmas activities were canceled last year. Other volunteers began sorting through materials in the library and eliminating those that do not apply to Jay County
This project has taken a lot of hours and required many, many hours of time by volunteers. Some spent more hours than others, but all their help was appreciated. Without all of the donated hours and your generous financial support, the project could not have been done.
Thanks to all who contributed in any way to preserving the heritage of Jay County and making it available to others.
